Memorandum of Opposition
Re: A2581 Gonález-Rojas
Creates a department of health education and outreach program on reproductive health services
The above-referenced legislation would require the Department of Health to establish an education and outreach program related to abortion in New York. The New York State Catholic Conference opposes this bill, which is the latest redundant attempt to spend taxpayer money to promote abortion.
Some abortion-obsessed lawmakers will not rest until the issue permeates every state agency and funding stream. Abortion on demand is the law of the land in New York and taxpayer dollars fund its practice every day. Lawmakers continue to redirect valuable state resources in the name of a fictional crisis to score political points. This does a massive disservice to women, not to mention struggling New Yorkers left behind by this misguided spending. The Department of Health should be focused on the health and wellbeing of our citizens, not on abortion “awareness.”
Every day New Yorkers are concerned about the cost of living, mental health, education and safe streets. That some lawmakers continue to respond by doubling down on abortion, which is already widely available, is frustrating. We urge you to reject this legislation and direct state resources to the struggling New Yorkers that truly need it.
