Re: S4121 Jackson / A8139 Lasher
Relates to protecting people from civil arrest at certain locations

The above-referenced legislation would protect people from civil arrest while within one thousand feet of a sensitive location, unless such civil arrest is supported by a judicial warrant or judicial order authorizing such civil arrest. The New York State Catholic Conference supports this important legislation.

Immigrants, refugees, and asylees are facing unprecedented uncertainty as the federal government continues to rapidly implement vast immigration policy changes. Unfortunately, undocumented families are now often living in fear of deportation. Regardless of immigration status, people within the United States must feel safe enough to attend religious services, seek medical care, access shelter and safety, and receive an education. This bill would protect immigrants in these settings, ensuring they feel secure in their religious freedom and ability to care for themselves and their families.

Federal policy changes should not leave New York residents living in fear. All of God’s children deserve the chance to practice their religion and maintain their health and safety. We urge you to support this commonsense solution that balances a need for public safety with the above outlined needs of individuals.
