Taxpayer Funded Abortion Services for Military
Taxpayer Funded Abortion Services for Military
Memorandum of Opposition
Re: S1571-A Krueger / A928-A Steck
Provides funding for abortion services and travel-related expenses not covered by the military for certain New York residents
Through the above-referenced legislation, New York taxpayers would pay for abortions and related travel expenses for New York members of the military, if they are in a state where abortion is restricted. The New York State Catholic Conference opposes this bill.
New York, like the rest of the country, is facing an affordability crisis. Families are being forced to choose between necessities such as food and housing. Citizens are concerned about public safety and mental health. Lawmakers in our state continue to respond by funneling taxpayer dollars to the abortion industry.
Tens of millions of New York dollars flow to the abortion industry every year, but our elected officials insist on legislating new reasons to spend more money, to score political points. Instead of paying women to have abortions, the state should be helping families to raise their children in dignity. Planned Parenthood does not need any more taxpayer dollars; struggling New Yorkers do.
The endless slush fund for abortion in New York must be curtailed so that our resources can be directed to the families that so desperately need them. We urge you to reject this unnecessary legislation.
